Abstract

In this review of Gil Anidjar's On the Sovereignty of MothersThe Political as Maternal I gesture towards interventions in relation to Black studies and the anthropology of religion and secularism. More precisely, I will consider how Anidjar’s meditation on (un)mothering can help us appreciate how the secular is a tradition like any other, reproduced by a mode of mothering that is not only particular, but perhaps also peculiar.
